Title: Table suggestion
Post by: mcorc963 on November 26, 2007, 11:56:42 PM
This question is no doubt asked often by fools like myself, but this seemed like the most sensible place to ask it, so:

One of my girl friends just got engaged and will also graduate in December.  For kind of a celebration gift for both events, I'd like to get her a table.  I've been doing a lot of research, but while I found lots about the Tornado, Bonzini, and Garlando, there isn't much about the lower end tables.  She's not a serious/competitive player, this is just for recreational use.  I'd like to get her something nice, but reasonably priced.  I was hoping to spend under $500.  I was actually hoping to spend much less to be perfectly honest (we're not that close ;D), but don't want to get her something worthless.  Is there a quality table out there within my price range?  I was starting to look on craigslist too, since I would be happy buying something used in good condition, but honestly I have no idea what I'm even looking for.

More succinctly, what is the cheapest table of decent quality I can buy?  And, what should I be looking for if I'm buying a used table?  Thanks a lot for your help.

Maria,

Shelti makes a pretty dependable low end table. We compliment the Bonzini line with the Shleti products to our retailers and they do quite well. The FOOS 100 or 200 might meet your budget needs.

You can find the Shelti line available here at Foosball.com.

We have some used tournament grade Bonzini's for sell if you and your friend get closer :D they get a little pricey.

Goodluck table hunting

Alan

I would say that if she isnt a serious player and doesnt plan on being one, then just get a Harvard brand table.  I actually used to have one that cost about $300-$350.  It was a pretty solid build and lasted through a couple years of college so you know that it is durable!  I forget what the actual table was called, it had ball-bearings instead of the regular bearings on TOrndado.  Anyways, I think that something like that would serve its purpose for you and your friend.

Get her a good used Tornado coin op. They last forever and are easier to move because of the split top design. If you need to sell it later on, you can get your money back.

Get a used cyclone 2 by Tornado.  I would sell mine for $600 plus shipping.  You can find them on ebay as well.   8)

Good luck,

don't mean to hit Jeremey but you can buy a Cyclone II brand new for 800 plus shipping and you can get a used Tornado coin op (an older model but still the best made foosball table maybe ever as far as build quality goes) this older model is often refered to as the "Brown Marble" because of the type of finish it had

I wrote quite a bit on this earlier and thought I posted it but apparently it was lost or deleted...if I get a chance I will write more later

I love my harvard , but will upgrade to a tornado ASAP. my used harvard cost only $70 and has already paid for itself. craigslist is a perfect place to find a used table. (especially if you've got a college town close to you) id vote harvard for you, good luck! and great gift idea BTW.

Guys, I found a Whirlwind (Tornado)for $225 used on Craigslist.  I might go for it just to wet the whistle again. Momma might get in a huff a little but hey, I spent too many years into the game to just story tell and bore you guys to death. That 'Snake" shot still seems hokey to me so I want to explore it a little. I know I'll get suggestions to get the coin op table or a Cyclone or better but all I want is to try that Tornado configuration to see if I can make anything work. I'll keep you posted,,,

Go for it, but you can find a Cyclone or something better than the Whirlwind for about that price if you look long enough.

Yea, craigslist is a good place to start, I got a virtually brand new tornado twister 2 for 300, and it was only ten miles away, so I didn't have to pay shipping, keep lookin, you can find a good one
