Title: Please help with a few questions.
Post by: dankfoot on February 14, 2008, 08:52:24 AM
Hi,

Brand new to this forum, and kind of foosball.

Can someone please give me some dimensions for the below. ( I can't find these answers )

1.  Dimensions of the men. (top to bottom)

2.  Dimensions from the bottom of the man (foot) to the table?

3.  Normal size of the ball?

4.  Middle of the bar to the bottom of the man?

The reason I ask is because last weekend we broke my POS table and last night I bought a used table. As of right now im happy with this table. It is a "Halex" I know this isn't a top of the line table but i'm trying to see how far off this table dimensions are to say a Tornado.

Thanks EDGEER,

Based on the 42 cents, that is right at 1/4 inch or so.

This new table I got the player is about 3/4 inch from the table.  The player is 4 1/4 high.

Is it possible to buy a bigger player so the the foot will be closer to the table?

Thanks

Measure the bottom of the rod to the playing surface.  What is that measurement?

Update,

So it looks like most men are 4 1/2 inches tall.

If I bought new men they would be 1/2 inch from the table instead of 3/4.

Is this worth doing?  If so where should I buy the men and what kind?

Sorry for all the questions and thinks for helping

I'm at work now but last night I measured the middle of the rod to the table and it was 3 3/8

I did a little research and have come to the conclusion you should keep your table the way it is.  When the opportunity arrises sell it and buy a Tornado, or Bonzinni.  There just isn't a retro fit I can reccomend.

You will never get back any money you put into that table.  So use it to practise with and find someone who will buy it from you when you have the money for a better brand.

Hey man,
Thanks for all of your help.  But I disagree with your last post. After taking almost all the dimensions on this table it matches other nice tables to the T with the exception of the distance of the player to the table.

So you don't think it's worth $60.00 to buy new men that will be 1/4 inch lower to the table?

Granted this will not be a tournament table but I am far from a tournament player.  In fact I suck compaired to 99% of people on the board.

I guess what im saying is would buying new men help this table be better and maybe help me improve any?

As it is now it would be very hard to pin the ball but with another 1/4 inch it should help quite a bit.

Thanks

I could not find any men that would do that.

A majority of the "recreational" tables (Halex, Sportcraft, Harvard, etc) use generic off-the-shelf parts. There's a good likelihood that parts from one table will work on others. A little shopping around and you should be able to find something that'll work for you.

OK, maybe your right.

The only thing I have to go by is I called.

http://www.foosballstore.com/category/scat/214.cfm

And they said that almost all men they sell are 4 1/2 inch which is 1/4 inch bigger than what I have now.

But that might be the total length of the man and not from the rod down. ( meaning the top half might be bigger and not the bottom )

Is this what you are talking about?

Yes sir.

Hey man, I just wanted to say that you are correct. As of right now I have only found men that are 2 1/2 inches from the rod to the botton of the foot.

So that is 1/4 shorter than what I have now.

Any other suggestions?

these guys will continue to help as they can but for the future, this is one of the reasons you stick with the more well known names even if you have no interest in tournament play...true with many other things besides foosball table but esepcially with them since there are so many parts which need to be maintained or replaced...

hopefully you got it for next to nothing but either way, you may want to consider looking for a good table used you know you can get parts on any time you need them

glad to see your interest, just something to think about in the future, I hope you can find the replacements you are looking for

I'm sure you are correct and thanks for anyone that has helped.

I was looking a used table that I could play around on. I do not need a "well know brand" right now because im new to the game and I didn't want to spend $400 plus.

Also, out of all the tables in my price range I thought this was more of a well know table.
At least I could find some info about it.

dankfoot, where are you located.  Maybe we could find some players that might be willing to adopt you while you're on training wheels.

Don't spend too much trying to get your table to play like a tornado.  Just use it as is.  You might experiment with a variety of balls just to see which played best on your table.

Thanks dude,

I'm in Raleigh NC, so im sure there are alot of players around.

I don't play much, but it is fun to kick it around some.  I only paid $100 for this table and I think it was worth it. But I would like to find some men that are a little lower to the table.

I did buy some new balls. I got a:

Bonzini ball
Tornado ball
and the cork ball kit
all from this shop.

What really got me looking into getting longer men was the fact that I can't pin the ball. (But like I said I'm very new so maybe it takes more pratice)

Right now im using a hard slick ball (only one I have as of now) so when I get the new balls it might be a lot better.

Anyone located in Asheville NC?

I will be there this weekend and I know Barleys and the bier garden have tables.
