I have been playing foosball on tornado's for the last couple years around 3 times a week, I am registered for the upcoming tournament in Calgary, AB, Canada, http://www.calgaryfoos.com which should be pretty awesome. Anyway I don't know what type of players I am going to come up against in the rookie and novice divisions but I registered for both in singles and in doubles. I don't shoot any rollover or snake, but have beaten several players with good rollover shots. I have about two months before the tournament, is it worth trying to learn how to shoot a rollover or should I stick to my pull and push. My pull shot is very consistent on every hole and my push is getting there. I can win races against most people I have played, but worry that even to have a chance against better players I might have to learn a rollover. My 5 bar is probably the strongest part of my game, and my ball controll is really good. I played a lot as a kid, had a table when I was 7 and lived in germany so I played a lot until I was 13, then I stopped playing until I hit college and started on a tornado. What are the things I should practice the most in the upcoming weeks to the tournament? Do I need to learn a rollover or is perfecting a pull actually going to give me a chance? Also is there a link to a rulebook that this tournament will probably use?

Stick with the pull.....It's obvious you are going to be much more comforatable shooting this shot in a tournament.. A good rollover takes more time than you have to prepare for competition.. Tour is split about 60% rollover 50% pull these days.
My .02 cents worth.

Thanks snake, i'm assuming some people use both shots too.. also do most pull shooters use handle wraps? or just rollover shooters... is anyone else attending this tourney?

Almost all shots use a wrap the last thing you want is your hand to get sweaty on meat nut and you slip when trying to shoot. Here is a link to the rule book.

Play with the wraps and find out what works for you...I highly sticky wrap does not help my game with a pull shot, but helps my roller tremendously. My recoil on my pull shot needs a less tacky thinner wrap..Search the shop online column here and view the options..
Good Luck..

I will try and add to my practice thread some stuff from Todd Loffredo and Dave Gummerson on getting practicing for an upcoming tournament
in the mean time, you can start working your way through the thread - I am sure you will pick up some good tips...you can ignore the first part it is about those of us on this board - once you get past my long couple of posts you will start to see the good stuff which I have labled

Thanks those are helpful. Is anyone else going to this tournament? $6000 pay-out guaranteed, 100% payback too. I am wondering if there will be some good pro's there or mostly local amature people.
