I'm glad your doing this Carlos. Keep up the good work. There is a lot of misinformation out there. Put it this way - It's good to get info from the horses mouth instead of the horses ass for a change.

I hear that we need more local players and that the league is the way to do it.  Then why does it cost so much to have a league and why do you need over 30 tables before you can create a league.  Home town USA does not have 30 tables.

You do not need VIFA to have a league.  We have had leagues here in Maryland long before there was a VIFA.  I know there were legues in the Nowrthwest for MANY MANY yearsbefore VIFA.  Just get together a format and go for it.  I would recommend some sort of handicaping system for the leagues (to give all players a fighting chance).  The only reasoning for VIFA involvement is if your players want to go play in the VIFA league championships.  But leagues are a great way to get people playing regularly, every week.  And they are a bit more fun than randomly drawn partners every week as well.

If you would like some more information, let me know.  We have run a variety of formats over the years here and all have been successful.

Hi Pat,

Do you think you could send me some info on the league formats and rules y'all use. I'd like to help get something started here in Iowa.

Carlos,

I'll put some stuff together when I get back from France next week.  I am getting together a few ideas for a league format to use here in MD this year.  I'll send you what I have.  I do not like the VIFA format too much for a veriety of reasons.  I'll post something on that when I return as well.

Good job with all of the interviews you have done recently.  And a big thanks for recording the USTSF meeting in Atlanta.  Public speaking on short notice is not my strong point, but I made it through with only a few dings!!

Thanks for everything you do.

Pat

I have to go to California to interview Brendan and shoot some video of the table, so the timing sounds good.
I think the VIFA leagus are way too expensive and counter productive because of that. So something that has a proven track record would only makes sense to adopt.

Thanks for the Kudos! What ever I can do to help. Im here.

BTW..You did a great job conducting the meeting! It was very informative, answered alot of questions, set everyone on to the same page and was overall very motivational!

Have fun in France!

ps. don't drink the water.....oh...waite.....that's mexico.   :P

Carlos,

great job, thank you...very helpful

it sure looks like a tornado clone outside of the approach for stability talked about in other threads

to many this is probably a comfort but it makes me nervous about the strip down the edge of the table and the shape of the mans foot because in my mind, that is one of the 2 or 3 things that has limited Tornado from being the best table, in everyway, ever made

foot design (for angles and banks)
side strip (for banks)
stability (so tournament players can play all out)
control (the table needs just a little more control)

on control, I think this can be easiest addressed with the ball...I recommend having 3 balls
Beginner (shipped with all home model tables) very tackie
Location ball (exactly like current Tornado ball...last a long time - comes with all coin-op tables)
Tournament ball - slightly more stickie than current Tornado ball but not too much (come with all tournament tables)

Thanks Tuna!

The strip is not a concern as I have yet to see it cause the ball to leave the table, (if that's your concern).
Remember, it is a home model, however, the table is very stable. Plus Fernando was trying to put the table to it's limits and it held up quite well! He is an incredibilly strong shooter, and was applying quite a bit of torque, and he was impressed.

The man is great for banking! I'll be posting another video with Evan shooting an awesome bank to win a game against Russ King and Fernando. You gotta see it. Pretty Sweet!

Wow! I can't believe I missed that one!

But yes, the distance is the same.
The only difference is in the goals, the surface and the weight.

how about the height of the rod from the table surface or more important the height of the bottom of the man's foot from the playing surface?

another thing that may affect play, is when I saw Fernando hit one of his pull shots, the ball jumped up and hit the defender when it was up in the air. I know that is a problem with the Shelti, having the ball jump when you hit it... especially with the Snake shot. You can turn the man upside-down and block a snake with the head of the man, cause the ball jumps so bad...

When I played on the Shelti, I could get the ball to jump and actually hit the rod of the goalie!!!  Just wondering if you noticed this when you played on it...

Yes, it is possible to go deadbar on the table. However it takes a bit more skill, therefore going deadbar will really mean something.

I seen the ball pop out on almost every shot is that going to be the norm? I hav`nt heard what the handles are made of and are they the same size as tornado?

What about Euro-Pins on that table? Does it support them more than the Tornado does?
