Title: Safety/Rod Covers

My three year old's face is basically rod height with the table.  Are there any products to prevent him from getting whacked by an extending rod? 

When the table is not in use, I can put foam pipe insulation around the protruding parts of the rods and throw a table cover on it. 

Any other ideas?

When my kids were that little I put a tennis ball on the bare end of each rod (drill a hole in the ball, screw it on), it worked great and was cheap-a-rooni.
