If anyone feels like playing, we have a game going every Friday night at JP's pub in Burlington. Everyone is welcome, we're looking for new players. We play from about 10pm to 2am. Currently we have about 6-7 players and the bar has 2 Tornado tables. If you want more information send me a message. Otherwise, we'll see you there!
-
Am I getting involved with spinners or people who know how to play the game?
-
we all know how to play. I've been playng for about 20+ yrs. another guy has been playing for 30+ yrs.
-
to add to my last note , it looks like this fri (dec 18) should have a pretty good turnout.
-
I've been playing for about 20+ years and will attend when I have a Saturday off I currently am on 6 days on and 2 off right now I have Wednesday and Thurs off
-
that would be great. we are always looking for new players. weds and thurs are pretty quiet. hope to see you soon
-
does JP have tournaments or just pick up games?
-
ok, I'll let you know more, seeing that you are the only one who checks this site. I moved here from Buffalo in April of 2008, I didn't find anywhere to play, so the only time I play foosball is when I go back to Buffalo, NY. I usually play in a tournament and I play with opponents much better than me, I've been playing for 20+ years and I usually play goal. I was at Mary Moore's tournament's in Kentucky, I did pretty good there. I wouldn't consider myself a novice. If you play forward, you would like me in goal as I can keep myself and try to keep my partner in the game. I shoot an open hand shot, unforetunately, an open hand is not that accurate, however, it is effective at clearing. My passes are good, but those remain to be seen. They have a saying about me back in Buffalo, it is, if he doesn't know where he is shooting, how can his opponents know? Question, have these players at Jp's ever attended a tournament outside of Vt? Where can the good tournaments be found? Any idea? Now if I can just find my glove and grips. See ya soon
-
we only play pickup games but we play serious enough to bring wraps. The only close tourneys are in boston
or new york. a couple of us just went to one in albany. we didn't do that great but i'm blaming it on the
fact that the balls were new and we had a hard time adjusting. at least thats my story and i'm sticking to it.
If you go to www.massfoos.com you will find postings for local tourneys. see ya soon

we will be playing this sat (dec 26) instead of fri. same time and place. I hope everyone has a safe amd merry christmas.

I saw you guys playing the other night (Dec 18). I was the guy dominating the other table. I've played with a guy Mark at JPs who is in there every once in a while, wears a hat and is very good. There are also 2 younger guys I've played before (locals not college kids) who are also pretty good. The 10-2am slot is pretty tough for me. You guys going to be there Fri 1/1 or the Saturday after?
Also, what about doing something after work 5-7ish?
-
you should have throw some quarters up and challenged us. the only mark that I know that plays there was playing that night on the side of the table closest to the wall. We will be playing fri 1/1 at the usual time. I asked everyone and most of them don't get out of work till at least 5 then they go home eat etc so playing from 5-7 is pretty much out. sorry. we're you the one of the guys that challenged us at closing? todd
-
No Todd I was never at JP's before, and whoever is the arsenal, where did he come from? 2 different individuals. I'll be there 1-1-10, see ya soon
-
Hey Mike,
It was fun playing with you on Friday night. We were lighting it up for awhile, with your shooting from the back. Next time you'll have to take it easy on Todd, or we'll have to hear him crying about it for weeks ;) Anyway, looking forward to seeing you out again.
-Tara
-
nice, really nice. :o the gloves are off now
-
i'm bringing my A game this fri. its not much different then my b,c or d game but i'm bringing it anyway.
todd
-
Hey Tara, you noticed that also, thank god, I thought I was just hallucinating we won 8 times in a row, but who's counting? No offense Todd, when the opponent is shooting a snake and getting shut down, we say the person is shooting a worm. Now now Tara, we have to let him win about 10% of the time so he remains interested, if he didn't, who would be our victim?
-
OK ttheo, bring your alphabet soup game.
-
ouch, tough crowd. :'( .I will admit I was having a hard time shooting the snake that night. however I noticed that you didn't
block my pull shot nearly as well and to be honest I wasn't shooting that very good either. Overall I was pretty happy with my
game I passed pretty well and was able to pick up a lot of loose stuff. Its just like golf, when the long game is working then the
short game is off and when the short game is working your long game is off. I just happy people are coming out and playing. see
ya on fri. todd

Seriously T & T,
Foosball is a game that works on the opponents mind. When playing forward, I was told to always go long the first shot. It puts a little fear in the goalie in that he has to respect you your next shot and opens the goal up for you. Of course it's easier said than done. When shooting against Jeff, I remember going long on my first push shot. That opened up the straight and after I scored the straight, it now opened up the slider because Jeff was covering the long and straight. After scoring two of the shots, he stopped the long, the goalie still knew I could go long and therefore; was covering all over, and then it is just shooting where it looks open.
Since the two of you shoot snakes, the best is try to go long on your weakest side, I believe Todd favors the pull while Tara favors the push. What this would do would open your stronger side up. However, since I am playing goal against you, maybe you shouldn't follow this advice, but when playing against Mark or Jeff, try it. Remember when I was playing forward and setting the ball up approximately a .16th of an inch for my push shot against Jeff? By setting the ball up that .16th of an inch, Jeff probably covered half an inch more, so the advantage was on my side. It's all psychological.
-
yea, once you have the basics down foosball becomes a head game. on offence and defense. Its who ever gets into the other
guys head the best. I'f go on but i'm watch the live streaming of the world cup. todd
-
It looks like i need to use spell check. :P later
-
Hey Todd, so how's everything going? Your head getting a little swollen, so your alphabet soup game was pretty good Friday, but remember, walls are built everyday, oh yeah, so is alphabet soup.
-
naa, I know that one week you can play good and the next week not so good. I don't let it go to my head. I thought everyone
played pretty good. Tara's brush pass was working really well. It was hard to read and she was using a good mix of ups and downs.
Chuck and I got quite a few points from the back which never hurts. well got to go, the soup is almost done. ;D todd
-
I agree Todd. I thought people were pretty on the other night. You were hitting your shot well on both sides. I was happy with my passing (thanks for noticing), but I can't ever seem to get my shot working at the same time as my pass. It seems that either one or the other is hot, but never the same night :( oh well, more practice I suppose. How were the world cup games you saw?
-
I wasn't paying attention when you were playing mark and scott but I thought you shot pretty good
against chuck, something like 80%. Which puts just a little bit of pressure on me. Especially that one
game when he gave you the ball like 3 times and you scored every time. :D Oh well, I can't talk when
I played goal I seemed to give up the ball a lot to the other three line. of course I'm a little harder to
score on ;D. The world cup games were great, I didn't have any sound but that didn't matter that much.
there were some real nail biters. billy's game against rob atha was great even though he lost and when
dave and tracy played their doubles match that went down to the wire on the last game i was on the
edge of my seat. It seemed like tracy scored 2 or 3 goals from the back every game. They didn't show
the finals though which was a bummer. later, todd

It was a little strange this time because I am not used to defending against a back pin, but defending a back pin can only make me better, so I'm happy about that, everyone's game was on. Scott was scoring from the back and Chuck was scoring good. I even was shooting pretty good, even though I passed about 65% of the time, then again, I had confidence in my forward in feeling that if I got the ball to her, she would score, so I didn't mind passing so much. The two of you were doing really good, I will admit Todd, when you got the ball on the three, I was saying to myself "crap". Tara, when you had the ball, I was ready to chalk it up. I really have a lot of confidence in you.
I had a tape of Tony Rosa and me when we won the Western NY Tournament, I was watching it so much, I wore it out. With me, I could never watch someone else play and learn from them, I always said to myself, everyone shoots different and has different abilities.
-
thanks for saying that mike. when terror oops i mean tara got the ball I was also ready to chalk up
a point for you guys. maybe i'll shoot a back pin this fri :D. When I watch other people play I look for
things I can incorporate into my game. For example on my five bar were I bounce it off my 1'st
man and hit the lane I saw billy pappas use it and thought it would go well with my passing series.
I feel you can always learn something from other peoples game. If you go to youtube and do a
search for eric dunn he has a really good set of videos called the 5 fundamentals of foosball. I already knew a lot of what he was saying but I realized I wasn't doing them when I was playing. later, todd

I remember going to a tournament in Canton Ohio with Eric, we had a good time. This was about 10 years ago and we just lost contact. I only remember Eric when I see his name on the results. Now that's a blast from the past.
-
Hi all hope to play so foos to night be there 9:00 lets have some fun
Mark Mckeown

Hey MarkMcK, about yesterday, I was just trying to get in your head when I said "I have no idea what i'm going to, so how do you?" (actually, it's true) For example, in Buffalo, when I had the ball on the 3 bar, an expert goalie would leave the long open and I would score with a straight, he would tell me, you're either a genious or a complete idiot. lol
-
"I have no idea what I'm going to do, so how do you?"
-
so it was a pretty light turnout fri night but I think the quality of the games made up for it. the marky mark team was hard to
beat. I now remember how much i hate defending a pullshot. thank you mark m. for reminding me :(. I believe I saw you and mark a.
chuckling over my pathetic defense. I thought I did ok till about midnight then, like cinderella everything went to hell. oh well thats
the way it goes. todd
-
not a bad night on fri. We had some pretty good games going. I see keith's five bar has improved quite a bit. Its probable from watching mine and then doing just the opposite. We were able to drag an oldtimer (well my age so not that old) out of his cave to play. hopefully he will get the fever again and continue to come out. hope to see everyone out this fri. todd
-
not that old huh....See you tomorrow:)
-
I am so going to kick your a$$ tonight :D.
