Title: repairing a table

purchased a table at a garage sale and it was in really good shape except for one problem the playing field is bowed in the middle therefore everytime a ball is hit it rolls to the corner of the table and stays there.  What are ways i can unbow the table? i do not know what kind of table it is. Is there any way i can flaten out the playing field.  or do i just need to purchase a new playing surface.
