Title: North Dakota foos
Post by: Wells5252 on May 12, 2006, 05:32:57 PM
I seem to be the only North Dakotan visiting this forum. If anyone is out there, shout back to me.

I am putting on a tournament in Grand Forks on June 3rd if anyone is interested, reply to this and I will get you the information.

From Williston. Love foos. Where's the place to play in Forks?

There are about 4 bars around town that have a tornado table. I am putting on a tournament at Suite 49. I rented a couple of tables. Just trying to spark more interest for the game in this area. Hopefully I can get enough people.

So, I have visited several towns in ND in search of foos. Here's what I have found so far:

1) Minot has about 3 Tornado tables in it's bars. There are some decent players but not much activity. The most activity I know of is pick up games at the Idle Hour bar in neighboring burlington. Frustrating, cause this is where I live.

2) Dickinson has the best foos scene that I know of with a league and scheduled tournaments (with several events!) at Bernie's Bar.

3) Cando has some good players...

4) Devil's Lake has alot of Tornado tables, but I could not find any players. The tables had some stiff rod action on them so I guessed they had not been played on.

5) Bismarck, one Tornado table at bucks, in bad shape and no players?

6) Grand Forks? Fill me in, how did your tourney go?

7) Fargo--can't find players there, only know of one Tornado at Ricks bar.

Please post with your town's foos scene. I have gone to Brookings, Huron, and Aberdeen to play. I was amazed to hear some people complain about their hour drive for the event. GF, Fargo, and Bismarck players--wherever you are, it's time to get something going. You are the closest big towns to SD and you could possibly draw some players from there...

TJ,
Jason here. Get your pals to post on this board, since it has this state specific posting. I know there's a guy from GF who posted on here, let's see who else will start posting. Everything's in line for a DYP in Burlington next month. I just need to come up with a flyer--email me your last one and I'll canibalize it. Later, J

Whats up Tooz, This is Matt Perry. You should let me know the next time you are having a tourney in Dickinson. There is nobody to play in Bismarck and I hate not getting any good games. My number is 880-2076.

Burlington is about 8 miles west of Minot. We are having a DYP at the Idle Hour Bar, on Friday March 9th @ 8 PM. Entry fee is $10, with 2 tables running. One is new and the other has been reconditioned so it should play well too. I have put up flyers around town (minot) and called all the foosers I know of, but I'm not sure what to expect for the turnout. It should be a fun time though. I know a draw your partner is not a big deal for most of the players that post on the boards, but as far as i know there isn't much going on in the state. If we get a nice turnout Friday we may do a Bring your partner or some other event on Saturday.  Let me know if you guys can make it! And if not send me some contact info so that I can find some foos in Bismarck, etc> I would love to see some kind of a player base develop in this state!

There will be about 5 or 6 players coming up from Dickinson for the tourney.  I will be bringing an additional table for us to set up, so we will have a total of 3.  It should be a pretty fun night of foosin.

I think there will be 3 or 4 people from Cando coming to the tournament on Friday in Burlington

I am glad to see so many responses--I would like to get something going every few months if there's enough interest. I think the best way to do that would be to have a contacts list at sign-up; enter your contact info (name/phone#, email, etc) at your own option if you want to be contacted for future foos events. It would be way easier to send out a mass email rather than circulate flyers and beat the bushes.
What do you guys think of having a few more events on Saturday--say, Forward Shootout, Open Singles, and Open Doubles? Since we have some out-of-towners coming we might as well make it a real tournament--Who wants to play more Saturday?

FoX:

We can run tourneys in dickinson anytime you just let me know when you want to do it.  Throw some dates out there!  If we can get people to show up we will always have tourneys.  We have a ROTO DYP every monday night @ Bernies Esquire Club, Sims st.  701 483-4495!!!   There are two tables, usually at least 12 players every monday.  We can run tourneys there on Fri.  or Sat.  just let me know.  This Minot tourney should be pretty fun for all of you Bismarck guys, I think you should get up there.

We'll do sign ups for FSO, OS, and OD on Saturday at 1 pm with a 2 pm start. We'll probably just play the events back to back till we're done--the early start should give the out-of-towners time to head home that night if they wanna.

Bump. Should be a good turnout for ND. Fishing is slow--If you're in the area and you can come out this weekend, do it!

I still haven't got permission from the old ball and chain, but ti looks good. If I do make it, it will be close to the 8:00 start time. I am super stoked for this though. Good work guys on setting this up.
Tooz, if I make it, I am coming for you. I haven't had my ass kicked lately.

Come to Billings, MT and play some foos at Bullwackers off Broadwater Ave.  Tuesday nights at 9pm, $5 entry, $.75 a game, 3 out 5 double elim. DYP format, new rules, on 2 new tornado tables with very good competition.  The bar matches the pot.  Leave word on the Montana foosball.com forum if you guys are interested.

I just stumbled across this forum and am super-excited!! I work over at Microsoft in Fargo, and we have a group of around 14 active players ranging from beginner to pretty decent players. We play each day at lunch on the Tornado table at work.

We have been talking for the past month about getting some kind of tournament or league setup in Fargo. I know I would also be up for traveling to Grand Forks or possibly Bismarck to even play. Please contact me if anyone out there is organizing anything. My e-mail is: jhensley@microsoft.com

Hey everyone...I am a student at North Dakota State University (NDSU) and we have just started a foosball league in Fargo.  We play every other Saturday at the Bison Turf (Next tourney is 3/21/09) .  It's been a pretty small event thus far, but we'd like to change that.  We have Monster energy drink and the bar "sponsoring" us so there are some small prizes, as well as bar tabs given away and that type of thing. We are still trying to get things organized, and would love to have some new players join us.  The age group of our players is everywhere from 21 to 50+ and all sorts of skill levels, so there is a lot of variance in game play. I've been playing up here for about 3 years and haven't found anybody as good as the players at the Turf in the Fargo area.  So far, the format we have been using is as follows:  $10 buy-in, Draw your partner, Double elimination, All matches are best 2 out of 3 games.  As I said, we are still working out the bugs in our league, so the last few times have basically just been a tourney.  If we could, we would like to get an ongoing league with a point system and an end of session tournament.  If anyone is interested in joining us, please feel free to contact me at brock.schilling@ndsu.edu.  Hope to see some of you there!

P.S. : Thursdays are the unofficial "Fooze Night" at the Bison Turf, so if you're just looking for some competition, stop on by!

-Brock
