age old tired question? New table: 1 goalie or 3?
« on: August 10, 2007, 01:24:30 PM »
Hi all, I am getting my first personal table soon hopefully.  I learned on a 1 goalie table (with corner ramps) and actually seem to prefer that layout.  But it appears this is layout is all but totally unavailable.  Is it worth looking for one and going with that, or should I just get and learn 3 goalie?

Also, while were at it :)  suggestion for table around $600?

Upon some further research, it looks like the Garlando g500 is a nice table in my price range, and with the 1 goalie config.  The problem appears to be finding it with non-telescoping rods.

Any big negatives on the garlando g500?

Where do you live?   You might want to consider "foosing" on a table that is popular in your area.   Differnet "brands" can play quite different.... if you want to venture out and test your game against the locals... it'll help tremedously if you have been practicing on that "style" of play.

I'm in baltimore.  I'm sorta leaning toward a 3 man goalie, mostly because of the greater popularity now.  If I played elsewhere it would most likely be on a 3 man goalie table, so it seems to make sense to get back into it with that.  Bah - just trying to settle on a table.  I really don't want to spend the $1300 for a cyclone II.  But don't want a crappy table.

I've got a potential line on a new Storm II for a good price locally, or maybe a slightly blemished on outside (cosmetic only) storm II.  From all I read I'll be best off with a Tornado table.  The Storm II seems more than sufficient for me.

If you wait you will eventually find a use Tornado coin-op for arround your price range.  If after a year or so you decide foos isn't your cup-of-tea you will be able to get all you money back.  You just can't go wrong with a T-2000.

Hi all, thanks for your input.  I did look around a bit for a used table, cyclone or t2000.  But no love.

I wanted to strike while the iron was hot so to speak (for several (surprisingly reasonable) reasons, I did not want to wait any longer), so I got that slightly blemished, but still new in the box Storm II, from a dealer.

My step son (he was one of the important reasons I did not want to wait any longer to find another table) and I just put it together last night, it's realy GREAT!  I am super happy with it, and am confident it will be more than sufficient for me.

I do have one potential issue on a bearing - I will ask in another thread after I investigate further.  (need to get back to work!)

Thanks again  - I'd like to see some more traffic on this forum, so I'll be back!

Question for all of your experts: Did the majority of tables being played on in the 1970's have one-man goalies w/ corner ramps or three man goalies?  Is it accurate to say that the "three man" back line is a newer way of playing than in the past, or vice-versa?

i'm no expert but in my area (montana) yes every table around here in the 70s was a single man goalie i want to say that in the mid 80 s  some tables  tornado, dynamo , went to the three man goalie but not sure as i was a way from foosball at the time , i do no that thay call
the three man goalie us style and the single man goalie european style and the single man is still played big in europe, and theres a
french style table called bonzine single man goalie playes a lot in some parts of the us , as far as the newer play of the three man goalie i would say it takes some time to get useto much more slop
i would think if ya was a left handed goalie u might play some offence
with them. but like i said i'm no expert
