Rod Locks
« on: January 28, 2009, 06:21:51 PM »
I have never used them, but I was curious about them.  I have a T-2000 with the counterweighted men and 3-man goalie bars.

Does anyone recommend them?  Are they useful for practicing alone?  How many do you really need?

Thanks,

I use one on the 5 for practicing my passing. It works best to use it on the outside of the table on the far side(assuming you are using a near wall pass). Obviously it would get in the way of catching 3 bar passes if you locked it on to any rods. so just stick something to the other side of the table so that the handle lock can rest on top of, it doesn't need to clip on because its own weight will keep it down.

You don't need rodlocks for goalie wars... they're ridiculous for gwars  .. although really good for practice with shooting tight holes and for passing practice.  All you need for gwars is two standard 1.5" or so diameter rubber bands.  Use the bands in twisted "8" to fasten any yellow 3player to a black 5player, and vice versa.

I used to use thick & stiff old leather belt segments with enlarged punched holes for the players' heads in certain positions but they forced the toes straight down... worked pretty good with the winger on the G-rod and either 2bar player, but not as good as the rodlocks which allow you to fasten outside the playing area, and allow any angle for the toes.

If you can find an old stiff 1/8" or 3/16" leather belt, you can duplicate the rodlock for the G-bar and 2bar positions by measuring and punching out 5/8 holes on a stiff segment, then cutting a slit on the belts from the edge to the holes, so you can "snap" them down on the Gbar and 2bar, also outside the playing area... works good.

Rod locks are awesome.

I use them to set up zones to shoot at from the goalie position.
