The kitchen sink?

While watching some of the "greats" in our sport it is obvious that they take the game to it's simplest form in order to be the most effective.  I originally approached the game with an entirely different view in that the more shots you could do, the more likely you could keep your opponent off balanced. Of course the whole thing falls to how effective your shots are. While my mind tells me that they win with the simple game it is so hard to give up on the "kitchen sink" method. It seems that a defined game with a little "spice' might be the answer for me. An innocent pass back and forth with an odd shot thrown in might make a goalie start to doubt a little and over react later. The limited effective shot selection used of Tornado tables makes the game too sterile IMO, but I can't argue with it's effectiveness. I guess I always liked to make a goalie wonder," So what is he going to do from that position?" as I switched it up from center to side to side, pinning back or front or not at all, tic tacing or moving with control. It was how I saw the game. Now it seems that the only value left of that game on these tables is a once in a while surprise shot. Bummer,,,

even in the "old days" the best players didn't do the kitchen sink...the boiled-down simple game was born in the early 70s and has defined the game as we see it today not the table...all the top players got junk, lots of it but they save for play when pressure is low and it doesn't really count

unneeded complexity when the pressure is on can cost, has cost, will cost people games/matches

see some of the Tony Spree and Trevor Parks doubles stuff in crunch time (both on the 5 bar mainly)

Dang Bb, why did your resurrect this thread? I still love kitchen sink foosball,, every shot being different from the last so as to keep your opponent off guard. Playing in flow and all that but we can't do it and win against the big boys unless we are in some metaphysical mind trip. Did you bring this back to goad me into some defensive statement or do you also dream of the days when tables had the control that allowed a mean game of KITCHEN SINK, IN YOUR FACE FOOSBALL! ;D

From what i've been told even back in the day the pull shot ruled. I think in some places it only counted for 1/2 point because of how easy it was to score. Obviously with Todd winning he had figured out that pull shot was fastest and best - not to say there wasn't other ways to win. What it comes down to is that you need to be efficient and execute every time. It is hard to execute the crazy shots all the time, especially when you have a hundred of them up your sleeve. Even if you can shoot it 85% of the time, a guy shooting a roller should be near 100 without more than a years practice. You can shoot the other shots for 15 years and not get to that level ever. Same rule applies with 5 bar and other aspects of the game too.

That said, we just had a trick shot competition the other day and it was a great opportunity to pull out the good stuff.  Would foosball be fun if I only ever shot snake and brush passed? lol. ya it would still be fun but not even close to as much fun as when me and the guys are in the garage drinkin and shooting pull kicks, sling shots, banks, 5 bar hacks, tic tacs, backpins, euro's etc. Isn't that the reason foosball is awesome?
