Front pin and switch to straight snake
« on: August 24, 2009, 01:08:18 AM »
Is it legal to be in open handed grip front pin position and quickly switch the grip to snake shot style to hit the straight? This method is way faster than a standard front pin straight.

I wasn't sure if there are any rules against shooting after not having a solid grip for a period of time. I checked the ITSF rules but didn't find anything, but maybe I just missed it.

people do quick rollover straights (and other shots) all the time and I have NEVER seen the call below made...maybe they keep in contact with the handle as they slide their wrist into position but I don't think so in many cases...however, technically, if your hand comes away from the handle and then is replaced (hand or wrist), you are supposed to wait a full 1 second before shooting

9.4.2 Once the hand/wrist is replaced on the rod, a shot or pass may not be attempted until one full second has elapsed.

on a related note, I can't see how dropping your hand into a rollover position then doing the straight could be faster than the pull up flip striaght of a Euro Pin if done correctly

by the way, if you are having trouble finding a rule you think exists but can't figure out where or aren't sure if it exists, you can use the "Find" feature under the edit menu or in this case at the top of the document on the PDF Tool Bar...far right hand side

Should be legal. Not sure what makes you think it's WAY faster. Perhaps you dont shoot it very fast, but the quick flick to go straight off the uero pin is fast if executed correctly. So aside from the legality of it, i dont see the practicality of doing the straight that way, unless it works out better for you that way.

Awesome. We'll I'm a total noob. So you can understand why I think the Euro Front Pin straight is slower than switching to the snake and flicking my wrist (due to the fact that snake is so easy to perform compared to the EFP).

I'm practicing Euro Front Pins solely by what I can see Rico do in Youtube videos. I don't know anyone Offline that can do one, let alone teach me. Zeke I love your vids, you got any EFP tutorials? Or any examples of a EFP straight and how fast it can be? Thanks Zeke.

bbtuna thank you for the clarification. Even though the call is never made, I still want to practice my game to be legit, so I need to learn to perform the EFP straight, especially if it's as fast as you say it is. And thanks for the tip with finding rules, I didn't think about that. :)

if you are watching Fred to study the EFP then you will see the straight done perfectly...Todd does a rolling flip over straight while setting up his pull...weird but you can see that it is plenty fast

as far as teaching video, I haven't seen much but there is a lot of video on youtube show Euro's shooting the EFP and so you can see stuff from there

now, there is material available in writing on this site I believe and on the other main board if you do some good searches...if I get some time later, I will look for a link
