cyclone table info (brown marble)
« on: January 12, 2010, 11:30:27 AM »
So I went today to look at a table for sale, just planning to take a look.  Well, when I got there (it was at a school) the guy selling it said that it had to go today or it would be gone.  They were closing the school.  So I ended up buying the table for $100.  I am the type that tends to do some research before buying, but in this case did not have a chance.  I was really in the marker for a coin-op Tornado, but to be honest the prices around here were more than i was willing to spend...plus I figured for what I payed it was not much of a risk.  Just wondering what you guys know about the table I ended up with...the thing is in great shape, looks like it was hardly used.  I assume it is at least 10+ yrs old.  Thanks, Steve.

brown mrbl cyclone is at least 13 years old but was the best made of all the cyclones and if it is little used, $100 is a really good price...all replacement stuff would be the same as a coin op and that includes all the newest changes if you were interested in any of them

BROWN MARBLE - 1983 - 1997 - stopped using the metal feet about 1988 but continued to sell them as parts until all home models, Cyclones of course included, would follow the cabinet laminet the coin ops used so they fall into the same time frames

get some new balls and cylicone and have at it...see What Table Should I buy? for initial clean up and things you need

if you are just a recreational player, this tble should last you for many

you will know by reading the What table I don't recommend non coin ops but in this case, you got a great deal and I think you will be very happy with the table considering the shape you say it is in...not as good as a coin op but $100 is an absolute steal...Great Job!

enjoy and if you need anything, let us know

Thanks bbtuna...I was pretty suprised to find this table at that price.  I have read your posts extensively, including how to get the table properly cleaned and prepped for play.  Thanks for that, you all are a great resource.  Having read your info, I was really looking for a coin-op, but I think this will do for now.  I am fairly new to foosball (played quite a bit in college, but that was quite a few years ago), so I am hoping this will be a good learning table.  I found a game store near by that sells Tornado balls and silicone, so I will be getting those tomorrow.  I was looking at the sponsor store on this site (which I will order some extra balls and possibly wraps from) but I am too anxious to wait for the balls to ship.  Now I just need to recriut some of my buddies and get them hooked (the wife says she wants to play, but we will see ;)).  Steve.

hear you on that...hopefully they will have the new darker red, as opposed to pink, Tornado ball...you can learn and play with either but the new darker one has more control and when you are just starting out, I think you would like this ball better...if you can't tell or they can't tell you (which i'd be willing to bet they can't) just get 2 balls for now until you can order online

also, you will pay more for them in person...Jim will get them out to you quickly so order what you need today and you will have them no later than end of next week

good luck and have fun...come back online and let us know how its going, what you are learning, good things, problems, etc...we are like a frat house here, were all brothers for the cause :P

where do you live, maybe you can get hooked up locally with some playa's .... that will help you learn faster than anything else

That was my thoughts exactly on the balls...I live in the metro Detroit area, not sure how popular foos is around here but I plan on searching for some tables in bars. If there are any MI guys on the site here who know of any hotspots...let me know.  Thanks, Steve.

detroit/MI foosball is alive and well...closest location is Taylor and the contact is Ron Olson who is a great player...very good base of players and plenty of people willing to help you

you can find them, and others, on NetFoos...not everyone uses this but many do for weekly local tournaments which are mostly DYP (Draw Your Partner)

they are playing on Warrior here, maybe the only place in the country but all of the players grew up on Tornado and the transition to Warrior is not that hard...there are some things to adjust to but it is a good playing (but not well built) table...i am bet you like it, it is a fun table

it will be good for your maturity to play on both tables...you may not like it at first but trust me that you will and you will see the benefit after a short time

Thanks for the info...taylor is not too far from me, about an hour.  Once I start feeling comfortable I will look up Ron and try to hook up with some local players.

don't wait until you are comfortable, get started right away, meet some new friends and get your game moving in the right direction from the start

its like people who say they want to wait to get married or have children until they can "afford" it...you will never afford it

and in foosball, you won't get good enough on your own to make a dent in the amatures let alone a Pro Master like Ron...he started out a newbie just like you not that long ago

you will get pounded for sure either way, just jump in and take your lumps, everyone goes through it...let the humbling experience drive you to practice more and better...I still do that even though my game is quite mature

get after it, you will thank me and don't forget to report back on how it goes...many of us here enjoy helpiing and watching new players develop

now tell me you won't wait 8)

Ok...get to it asap ;D.  I did get the table set up and cleaned tonight.  I love it, perfect for me, exactly what I was looking for.  I did notice that one of the goalie (3) rods has a slight bend to it, does not seem to effect play at all.  Do you think this is something that I need to worry about?

The store near my house only carried Shelti balls and silicone, so I got that.  The balls are the red ones, they seem pretty forgiving and will do until I can get some ordered.

I was looking around at the game shop and they did carry Tornado tables...list price on the new cyclone table they had... :o$2699 :o.  Looks like I saved myself about $2600 ;D.

until you can notice that the goalie rod is impacting your play, don't worry about it

i don't know if Shelti uses the same viscocity silicone so i would order some Tornado specific stuff

even if you only order 2 balls and a small silicone to get started, get at that today...if it is a shelti ball, it will not play the same and the ball will impact your play quicker and probably more than any other thing on the table - by the way, while you are ordering, try and get 1 or 2 Warrior balls to mess around with since the local tournaments play with that ball...much, much different and you will appreciate being able to practice some on your Tornado with the Warrior ball even though Tornado rods are hollow and a little lighter than the solid Warrior

I am suggesting just 2 balls and small silicone because I assume money is tight which is why you hadn't ordered yet...if you can afford it, you should get 10-12 balls and a small AND large silicone like i mention in the What Table Should I Buy thread and you can see my reasons and links accordingly there

if you don't have wraps already or you are ready to get the good stuff, order some Master Wraps - I recommend starting with the light blue thin version...when you have the extra cash you can try some different stuff - read my comments on wraps here http://www.foosball.com/forum/index.php?topic=2984.0

Cyclone for $2600 is a joke...you can buy them brand new shipped for $900ish any day of the week

some of these sites are not real foosball sites and they inflate pricing like crazy...2600 is much more than MSRP i can assure you...heck, if a Cyclone is $2600 a coin op must be like 4 grand and you can get a brand new coin op for around $1200 plus shipping

still, you got a super great deal

Yea, I knew that price was WAY overinflated...just found it funny how much they were asking (it was at a local store, not the web).  Thanks for all the advise on accessories, I will be placing an order today.  Got some friends coming over tonight to play...bunch of hacks like me.  Take care, Steve.
