Newby Needs Help With Purchase of Tornado Sorm II
« on: December 23, 2010, 10:37:04 PM »
Hello everyone!  I'm a novice at this but I'm very interested in buying a quality foosball table for my home.
Can anyone look at this http://chicago.craigslist.org/sox/spo/2121100053.html and tell me if it is a good deal?
Any advice here would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Based on what you'll read on this forum, I'd stay away from the Storm II....esp at $650.

Most folks will say you can get a coin op for less, and that is the way you should go.  For instance, for the same price there is this in your area:

I would consider this.  Some others could weigh in to say whether that being a 25th anniversay T2000 coin up is worth the $650, but that would have my interest way before the Storm.

Yeah, I would stay away from the Storm as well, especially at that price.

I'm in the market for a new table as well.  I recently found a coin-op in my area that I'll be picking up next week.  If you're looking for a table, try to find the thread bbtuna started, titled "What table should I buy."  Being a little newer to the game, I found it very helpful.  I think it's on page 2 of this forum at this point.

Living in the Chicagoland area myself I definitely know the trials and tribulations of finding a split-top (coin-op or not) or even a high end quality home model.  It's a supply/demand thing here and I rarely see coin-ops for sale here.  I see home models for sale from time to time, and I've seen used Tornado tables of all types go for nearly double here Vs. other parts of the country.  Having said all that, coin-op Tornado's (especially Bonzini's) can go for a premium here, so much so that it's probably just easier to buy a tournament used table from Charles Mac.

Your best bet is to look at tables in Wisconsin (like the table frosty suggested) or possibly Iowa.  I have a blonde coin-op in my basement that I might sell...but I was planning on hanging on to it until I can work a trade for a Fireball coin-op.

that Tornado coin op is a 20 year old...ish table and 650 is at least 200 more than the Most you should pay for it...read this and it will help you...this is probably the most common question asked on here and this should answer most of your questions and even some you haven't asked but should  ;)
