Letter to Dave Courington
« on: February 17, 2008, 03:37:48 PM »
I sent this email to Dave Courington today. Hopefully he feels the way I do about the subject and can help to change things in my area at least. Tell me what y'all think...

Mr Courington

I am hoping you can spread some light on why of all the Brunswick Family Centers that have opened in the St Louis Metro area in Missouri, few to none have Tornado Foosball tables installed in them. While the one in St Peters MO was under construction, I eagerly anticipated being able to walk in and speak with management about helping them set up mini-tourneys and traveling leagues between the various centers here to help reinvigorate a player base in the area, but alas neither it nor any of the others plan on having Tornado tables on premises. We still have an active player base that are trying to spread their legacy to their kids, but there is no where to go that is safe for kids to learn the joys of foosball. Could you perhaps make this suggestion to the powers-that-be at Brunswick that it would be beneficial not only to Tornado but to Brunswick as well that there is a whole new generation of players that have no access to Tornado tables since most if not all activities are held in pubs now, but with a family friendly atmosphere like their bowling fun centers, we can generate interest while the kids are young and introduce this and future generations to the sport that we have loved for well over 35 years now. It would only take maybe 3-4 tables in each Center to realize this dream. I hope that your knowhow and influence within Tornado and Brunswick can persuade them that Foosball is not dead, it just needs to be brought to the attention of the current generation to again take root and regain its former glory. I know you will have the strong support of the aging player base to bring this sport to their families as well as rekindle their own hunger to compete.

Sincerely yours,

Rick Franks

Hey Charles,

I am still playing alot of foos.  How about you?  I was surprised not to see you or many KC foosers come down to St. Louis for the last two MO States.  Are you going to make MO State when it comes here in November?  Is Loyd Mandel done with the KC Classic and the MO/KAN Shootout?  If he is, it is too bad, those were fun tourneys.

Talk to you later, Neil

Neil,

from April to the end of the year, I literally didn't have any time off at work, plus money is an issue but slightly less than time

as far as I know, Lloyd is done with all tournies so we won't see anything in KC anytime soon especially since you all have been having a hard time gathering a large crowd and your active foos community is much larger than KC's

I have continued to work on my game but have choosen to concentrate my efforts more in specific parts of the game and I think it is paying off

I liked seeing everyone gather, socialize, and play foos at the Lloyd tournaments but they were soooo badly run I had a hard time appreciating the time

November is a long way off but I plan to attend if at all possible and if need be, I can drive over early Sat and stay at a relatives house Sat night so that would make it much more affordable

hope everything is going well and that we get to play again sometime in the not so distant future (before Nov)...I may try and make a trip over for one of your larger weekend draws, I really considered it last time and next time I will push harder to make it over...just think, $80-$130 worth of gas can get me there and back... ::)
