To All Who Attended 2007 Maryland States,
I would like to extend my deepest appreciation to everyone in attendance at last weekend’s Maryland States. From the players, to the hotel staff, to the tournament staff-- it seems that everyone gave their very best to make this year’s event such a great success.
To the players from our neighboring states: Virginia, Pennsylvania, and city of Washington D.C., thank you for your continued support and participation. Without you, we would not be able to maintain such a strong player base and grow the sport in our own state of Maryland to the level that it is at today.
To the players who traveled from: Massachusetts, Michigan, Illinois, New York, Rhode Island, Ohio, North Carolina, Texas, Arizona, Delaware, New Jersey, and the country of Costa Rica. I cannot say thank enough for traveling such a long distance to join us for our tournament. It is not easy to drive or fly hundreds of miles, stay up long hours, and give 100% in your games, but that is exactly what all of you did.
With 1,284 matches played, very seldom was a harsh word said, or an argument overheard, or a call for a ref. I myself was very impressed, and I believe we should all be proud of the level of play and sportsmanship carried out each and every competitor.
I would like to send out a special thanks to Mary Moore, Kristin Grogan, Justin Shaw, Arthur Mitchel, Patrick Ryan, Jason Boone, and Shawn Mckern. These events would have no chance of running so smoothly without the efforts of each and every one of these people behind the scenes.
To Charles Mackintosh—Jim Waterman, Tony Brannum, and I would like to send out our most heartfelt condolences to you and your family. I cannot begin to imagine the heartache and sorrow you must be feeling at this time. Please know that our thoughts are with you, and our prayers go out to you.
Once again, THANK YOU PLAYERS!!! Hope to see you next year. I promise it will be bigger and better than ever.
