rod is sticking ?
« on: February 14, 2007, 11:42:41 PM »
I just purchase a new tornado cycl. 2 table.
I been playing on it for about 3 day now.
When I go to do the snake shot I can feel the rod sticking.
I put that oil they gave me. It still sticks. I even took the bearings for the 5 bar and changed it out with the 3 bar. It still sticks. The rod is not bent. The other 3 bar is nice and smooth. Can someone please help me.
Why do they call them bearings when there are no bearings. It is just a piece of plastic that the rod slides on. Also I am have touble leveling the table. need help with that.  Thanks Jason

Okay, if your having the 3 bar stick on you..... Did you try cleaning the rod itself. I know this may sound stupid, but if you pull the foosball table out of the box, put it together and through some lube on there and call it good. You may still have a problem. There could be some dust particles on the rod that you did not know about and when you added the lube it just soaked it up. This has happened to me. I cleaned the plastic bearings and the rod very well. And re did it again and there was no sticking.... Now leveling your table takes time and patience. If you have a pretty good leveled floor, start by taking the levelers down all the way. See which way you have to go. It doesnt take much to make the table shift. A couple of turns on the foot make a big change. If you have a 5 foot level or know someone that does. Use that and go from end to end and corner to corner. That is all really that I can give you at this time. Any one else can add input. It just takes time.

Why do they call them bearings when there only plastic with no bearings....? I have no idea. My guess would be is back in the day they did have bearings and quite a few tables today still do. I guess they figured not to change the name.....

Good luck and hopefully more people can add to help you..

Happy foosing

I did all what you said. It still sticks a little. I wiped the rods down with a clean rag. What do you clean the rod with??

You can also make it stick when you over tighten the bearings.

Definetely make sure that the bearing is not on to tight. Daniel brought up a good point. I use Acetone to clean the rod itself. However I do not use much and I place it on a rag first. Plus I take the rod off of the foosball table in order to do that. You do not want to get Acetone on the playing surface for it is some strong stuff that would hurt the playing field. Otherwise any grease remover of some sort works fine. I use Acetone because I have it for racing and it's self drying.  But, yea make sure the rod bearing is not on to tight because it will give you that same feeling of a stick to it.

Let me know if this works

The bearings are not tight. I notice the rod is kind of scratch up. I don't know how it got like that. Where do you get acetone from?

you may have a burr on the bearing that scratched the rod is probably the cause ,,, and the hole drilled in the table that holds the bearing can be "crooked" as well , (valley has been known to get measurments off and things dont always line up "true" ), ---Ben
