Changes at the majors
« on: January 04, 2008, 06:44:18 PM »
Did I hear that in the majors you have to have interchangable handles? I havn't been to a tourny that has enforced it yet. How do you get them?   Also, do you have to wear a jogging suit or something?? What is the reason for all changes I wonder?   Just wondering.. . I don't want to get to Vegas and not have the heads up. :)

Here in the USA, most tournaments are played on the Tornado table.  No handle change.  The jogging suit rumors are blown WAY out of context.  The rule is that for OPEN level events (meaning the top 64 teams/players in Open Doubles, open singles etc. are requested to wear "sporting attire".  This does not mean you must wear a jogging suit.  It means no jeans or cargo shorts, and you should wear athletic shoes.  All other events and the qualifying rounds of the open events only require neat dress (clean jeans or pants, no cut-offs, no vulgarity or profanity on shirts, etc.)

The dress code has most recently been "loosely enforced".

The intention for the change is to present the Open events as Sporting Events.  These are the best players in the world, competing against each other in one of the more prestigious table-soccer events of the season.  The rules are designed so that the participants appear as athletes, not some yahoos playing a silly game in their garage.

You won't get to Vegas and be stunned because you are being asked to wear a jogging suit and have custon handles.  If you have never been to a tournament of this size before, you may be in awe of the tournament room itself (100 or so new foosball tables, bleachers, cameras, bigscreensfor watching live action on the featured tables, and so much more).

It should be a great experience and lots of fun.  So many great people to meet and compete against, and learn from as well.

Have fun,and I hope to see you there.

Feel free to post any other questions you may have, and we'll do our best to answer them for you.

Pat,

are Rookie and Semi going to remain race to 7 in the loosers?  i will not pay that kind of money to face that kind of format

second, is there any real work being done to deal with how long the days run, how much time there can be between matches, and how late matches are called one day and how early the next (especailly lower ranks)...I know conflicts are an issue but there have to be answers for how to deal with these conflicts

the answer in my opinion isn't to limit R and SP to Race to 7

I have ideas of course but I was just wondering if anything is being done about that

also, not to pile on, but is anything being done to address the current table quality issues and the fact that the last few tour tornaments players show up to find new table issues they haven't seen before and no individual lighting for each table

there, that was nice of me right...i just thought since you gave your credentials and responded on the board in an official capacity, i would see if you could answer some of these questions (I have more :D)
