weaknesses in your game

Weaknesses; what are they, and how do you overcome them ???

I was curious to see what people thought their weaknesses were and what they did to combat it!!! I know for me I have a problem in which I show
my frustration...whatever it is...from a hacker who hacks at the ball and it lands in the the goal or on the three row as if God himself miraculously put it there >:( to just missing getting control of the ball especially when "I had it",  to my poor 5-man defense I am such a competiter that I sometimes let my frustrations take me out of my game...So I know I have to work on them. What are yours???  Happy Foosinaround!!!

i think my biggest weakness is my willingness to shoot from the back, instead of passing it up front for a shot. i fell in love with doing so when we were playing alot of doubles and i didnt mind playing defense because of my ability to score from back there. now that we've shifted to more singles (i hated singles at first) its just a bad habbit. im able to pass it up there, mostly because people think im gonna shoot it. i dunno , i say its a bad  habbit , but ive also had someone tell me that im learning to master the game in the correct order. My 2cents

I think my weakness is not doing all the proper steps in my shot . Like not putting my all in to every shot not a full follow through . And so on

Pretty hard to shine a light on ourselves like this. If you had asked what is our strengths we could have been on page 3 by now. Foosers do have a tendacy for big egos you know. ;D My weakness would have to be finding it hard to keep the high level of concentration through out a long period of time. And playing down to my opponent. I need killer competition to have that killer instinct going.

my weakness is definately reading opposing five bar d...or i should say good 5 bar defense.  I can eat alive friends and others, but when im playing against better players...my timing isnt there.    Im kind of like the rookie or second year quarterback that just needs a lil more game experience.  Has the skills but just needs time-experience.

im also thinking that I need to learn some good fakes to open the holes i want to go to...but thats timing as well....damn it i just need to play pros everyday...

Hey Chance, what's up?

Found an old thread that might help you on reading five bar defense. Hope it helps.

I'll give you three guesses who "Guest" is. LOL.

I have to say that my weakness has to be my mental game.. i sometimes defeat myself before the game ever starts.. there are people i know i can beat but once the game is goin and im not there mentally all of a sudden i start not catching my passes... not hitting dead man and hitting the wall.. I believe its something that i will over come with in time and more tourneys hopefully

You shouldn't be trying to hit a dead man first off, it is not necessary. What tends to happen in tense situations is you will overstroke the shot, thus hitting the wall. Although all pros have the ability to hit a dead stroke, almost all longs you see in a match are not. The dead stroke is a slower stroke and takes the most energy to shoot.

One method of practice is to push the two rod to the dead position and  rotate the man backwards parallel to the table. Now bring in the goalie and rotate it forward also parallel to exactly match in alignment. To start this drill you might want to bring the goalie back away from the long just a bit and put the man back down in blocking position. Now work on getting to this long hole as quick as possible because against good goalies this is the one you will see most often. Good goalies will not show you a post defense if they know you can hit a dead....unless that is you always hit the wall.

I have never tryed to read a 5 bar defence I do my passes and go with what works I won a match doing a wall pass then a brush he never blocked a pass.  But I wouldnt spend a lot of time on that the more you play the more you will figure it out.But thats just me

I agree against an beginner I can own them and just time them and go....but against pros you have to be able to recogize tendancies or tells or patterns in order to be successful..or they will eat you alive.....

another side of it is opening up holes with a good series with fakes etc....but then your trying to make him misread what youre doing.....

I have begun to really focus on watching other guys play...and actually trying to figure out why they are doing what they are doing as well as what they are thinking...that is what it takes to get to the NEXT level.

And then when i figure all of these things out....I need to be able to do it in a state of known as playing Consciously Unconsious.

You hit the nail on the head. I watch utube  and other videos learning what they do and why, it seems very high persentage passes and shots nothing fancy just cosistant play even when there behind.
