Although the American Heart Association was the big winner, Erin was a close second winning that brown marble in the raffle. Neil had it up and running great with new parts. If I had won it, I would have sold my blonde off in a heartbeat and kept the brown, since I play on those at my local bar and I've always liked the tables' solid feel and ball control.

It would suck if she had to pay income tax on it though, Uncle Sam don't deserve none of that swag, that's fo' sho'

Just got back this morning from my little shotgun vacation. Wanted to say thanks again Neil and others for convincing me to go to the tournament. Although I was probably one of the less skilled players in the field it was a great experience, and I had an understanding partner who tried to help me out. I did score a couple nice goals though ;). I guess we won one match, so I shouldn't be that upset about it. You have a great hub for foosball down there, and hopefully I'll try to make it to a few tournaments from time to time, but until then.... time to practice. (to bad I can't find somebody to shoot a blazing pull or snake which I saw down there).

Nate,

So you WERE that Nate Z that played with Dave!  Great to hear!  Now you just need to become a serial fooser in your neighborhood and check out where the nearest college or community college town venues are, and hopefully they'll have a Tornado.  Spend a couple of weeks playing curiously by yourself, so the innocent bystanders become inured to your presence.  Then you pounce!

If you don't have any convenient nearby playing groups, you have to make your own.  And if you get to like the food and beverages and atmosphere at any nearby venue (whether you drink or not), it wouldn't hurt to suggest to an owner with pool tables and/or dart setups to get a foostable!   Datz how dah serial foozahs infiltrate day hood.

I've thought about talking to a bar or two about getting a foosball table. Unfortunately the nearest place I can find on the net is up in the Quad Cities, and it also takes place on the same night that I go to bowling league. The guy I played with was named Dean. He was amazing considering he said he'd been out of the game for about a decade.

I haven't quite ventured onto he university campus to look for foosers yet, primarily because I'm busy with work and other things. As far as the bars here, I've yet to talk to any of them.

Nate,

You are quite welcome!!  I am so glad you came down to play.  You had a good partner with Dean.  He is a very skilled player.  I watched you play a little and you have game for sure!  It will not take you long, and you will be a force to reckon with.

Hope you can make it down for MO State Nov 14-16 in St. Louis.  It will be a blast!

Neil

Thanks Neil. I am definitely going to make it down to the tournament. Not sure if I'm going to get a hotel room, or if I'm going to stay at my friends again. From a monetary standpoint I should probably crash with my friends and commute for the tournament. I may not even play in all the events, but I'd like to buy a package, but if I don't have partners for anything (which I probably won't) I might just register for events that I want to play in.  Glad to see that your event went so well, and that you got second place! To make a long story short, you'll definitely see me down there again. I might try to shoot up to the Quad Cities next week or the week after to play some of those guys before MO State.

Nate, you can save yourself 15 bucks by pre-registering with Mary and sending her a money order at the address provided on the flyer for $35 postmarked by Nov 1st I believe (so don't delay, send it in NOW!). I'm sure if you come that you will play in at least 2 events (that would be $30 for the individual event registrations alone) so you would start saving money with the 3rd event you play in onward, with the 4th events and after just gravy...

I wish I had known that was you playing with Dean S, I would have intro'd myself and chatted with you some after our match. Unfortunately, we were the team that put you guys out of the losers bracket so sorry for that. My forward partner was playing pretty good that match, his pull was dead on so don't feel bad about him scoring on you. You'll get better with practice, I promise!

Hope to see you again at MO State, we will definitely play some pickup games for funzies.

Rick

Oh ok, that was you. Yeah your partner was fast.... and like you said, dead on. I was honestly just very content taking one game (sure the last point was slop), and then scoring a goal myself. For me even seeing a pull shot like that was a good experience, it was fast and fiercely and precisely executed.

Will Mary take personal checks or does it have to be a money order?

It has to be a money order, and I would suggest a postal money order (those are the safest kind) so you can buy it and then send it off in one transaction. Don't forget to take Mary's address with you to the post office, and be sure to include your other pertinent contact information (including the tourney you are registering for ie: 2008 MO State) on a slip of paper since you are not in Mary's players' files yet.

Remember, it needs to be postmarked by Saturday!

PS here's the address:  $35
