Little background:
During the winter months, on weekends, my wife and I open our house to families with kids (we have none ourselves) to come over and play games. (Ping pong - darts - multiple networked computer games and other games)
We usually end up with 10-14 here.
This winter we decided to add foosball. Originally went to Dicks and Sports Authority but thanks to feed back from this forum we ended up with a coin op.
http://www.foosball.com/forum/index.php?topic=2301.0 Well we just had our 3rd weekend and everyone absolutely loves it.
Few interesting observations:
The first weekend almost everyone were rod spinners. I didn't really want to set any rules - wanted everyone to simply enjoy the game and come back for more.
http://www.foosball.com/forum/index.php?topic=2099.0But I had the table for 10 days prior to the first weekend and had diligently practiced. Had gotten the pull kick and pull down a little (probably very slow by most standards - but a rod spinner would be impressed)
Anyways it started to be obvious to some that when I was playing the rod spinning was not working well. I will never forget the look on one kids face (16 yrs old) He was on the defensive bars I did a successful pull kick. He was speechless but his expression said. "Huh... He planned that that way...thats what I need to do"
Of course my shot was slow enough (not on purpose) so that they could see exactly what I was doing.
Well by the end of the first weekend I saw a few of the kids actually do a successful pull kick (I never actually showed anyone how to do it) and I could tell they were proud of themselves.
Also side note - the younger kids (8-12) really got a kick out of the coin op thingy, they felt like they were getting something for free that they should be paying for.
This past weekend was the 3rd - and no more rod spinners. (smile)
Again just a thanks to everyone for the feedback and all the postings I've benefited from.
