Putting together my new Cyclone
« on: May 13, 2009, 01:56:11 PM »
I started putting it together last night but am going to wait til later in the day to hammer in all the pins.

I tried hammering in a few and found it to be pretty difficult with the poles spinning when I strike.

Also I can't seem to find anything that will tighten the inner nut on the legs, do you think its ok with hand tightened inner nuts? The tool it came with can't seem to reach it in a way that will allow me to tighten them and I don't have any of my own small wrenches.

Any tips to a newbie? I'm used to playing with wood handles at work so I don't plan on getting the tacky strips people talk about. I also think that maybe I overdid the initial lubrication to get the men and bumpers on... Should I clean it off with alcohol and reapply?

I always say use your own judgment.  Hand tight is fine for the leg nuts.  When hammering in the pins have a friend hold the rod steady it will make it easier.  Good luck with your new table.

Got it all set up and played a couple games. I've only ever played on a poorly kept table at work although I do play heavily on it. It is also a cyclone.

I'd say with this one, Balls feel weird, Handles feel weird, surface feels extra slick... Hopefully it all just need to be worn in a bit. My table is also over lubricated =/ hope that'll wear off soon.

Some questions:

1. My table at work has 5 blonde and 5 black score counters, but they are all on the same side, with the blonde discs being over the black goal. So what I am used to is the person who just scored marking it with his right hand. This table's instructions had 4 black discs and a blonde disc over the black goal and vice versa. I'm not sure why the mixed colors on the counter or who should be scoring where... Does the defense mark a point when his team makes a point?

2. The ball return is set up to give the ball to the team that scored. This doesn't make any since to me. Shouldn't it return to the team that is about to serve? When one team is winning by a lot we have to keep passing balls to the server. I only have the three balls the table came with and there was no other way to set up the ball return tubes, base don length and where the holes were. Is this correct or a manufacturing defect??

3. Balls constantly get stuck in the goal. Any tips on how to fix this? Its especially bad in the corners but it can get stuck right in the middle of the goal as well. After 5 games the ball got stuck about 10 times. There is a silver metal curve that feeds into a black metal cone shape that leads to a plastic tube. The silver part overlaps the black part without a lip but the ball gets stuck just resting strait on the silver metal part cause its pretty flat across the bottom. The silver part is also about 1.5cm wides on either side compared to the black part and this is where the ball got stuck 7 or the 10 times. I'm thinking of maybe just stuffing some paper and scotch tape in there?

4. Why is there an angled board inside the goal that slides around? what purpose does it serve?

Most games are to five so the last bead being a different color is for "Game Point.  NO big deal, the goalie keeps his teams score on the beads at his goal

This is the correct set-up.  When you practice shooting the ball you want the ball to return to your side. Otherwise you would have to walk around the table after each shot.

Not sure about this one?  Duck tape will fix just about anything.

That is the Thunder Rattle Board.  It is what makes us love this game.  The sound of it makes when you score is what we all strive for!

do you have the tin/metal part upside down?
