Buying table
« on: December 18, 2009, 05:02:33 PM »
I just read the thread on picking a new table, and I think it nixed all my options I was looking at:

1- buy a new Cyclone II class table - better to buy a used coin opp for less cost
2- http://austin.craigslist.org/spo/1512541602.html - too low of a model, seller can't confirm model, stored outside on covered patio last year
3 - http://austin.craigslist.org/spo/1508283447.html - I really liked the sound of this for the coin opp, and price, but the chipping around the goals sounds like an indicator I should not pursue it; it was in a bar room prior to it's current owner that keeps it in his living room.
4- http://austin.craigslist.org/tag/1508978816.html - this one may still be vialbe - not sure if it is the variation of the T2000 subject to warping, but it sounds like the time frame the warping was going on; also it's not coin op.

Are any of these worth going after, or should I keep reading the forums for knowledge, and craigslist for deals?

Thanks,
Barry

first two no for sure

3.  for 550 is a brown marble and by the sticker it is 15 years old...i would buy one of those with the chipping and just use some nail hardner (another post) to strengthen it...plus i end up blowing out goals no matter what - however, 550 is about 200 too much for a 15 year old table with blown out goals...if you can get it for $350, it would be a table you can clean and use for another 20 years with a little maintenance once in a while

4.  this is the table i own, it is the "Cherry" model...he may have purchased it 2 years ago but they haven't been made for a solid 4 years...its not a coin op but it is a split top (hinged) and is the same exact table minus the coin mechanism so for play purposes it is just as good but it isn't as good for resale...this table should sell for about $500, $600 tops...his comment about buying a new one for $2000 is pure sales BS and I hate that kind of thing-how much did he pay hmmm?...no warping problems on the Cherry tables - since it isn't a coin op, it should be at the lower end of this scale --this guy is not likely to move down $300 but you never know..if you have the balls,  you can always ask and just be prepared to walk away

if you just started your search, hang in there, you will find what you want...i will look into something later and get back with you

bbtuna, thanks for the comments, and for the great thread on buying a table.

I'm thinking of offering the brown marble guy $425 (asking is $550)..  I know that's high, but if the table will last me for 20ish years, and the chipping at the goal isn't a big deal (assuming I can live with it cosmeticaly), heck, it might be worthwhile.  He may not take that, but I don't think I can pay $550 for what I should get for $300ish.... or should I offer $600 for the T2000?  I have some interest in closing the deal soon, but it's not a requirement; we're converting the kids "play room" into a "game room".

Thanks for any further comments, or ideas.

Barry

ah, my wife wants me to make an offer on the T2000, I want the coin opp...  My wife doesn't mind the cosmetics of the coin op as much as I thought she would, she just thinks the newer model is a better value and will last longer....  any thoughts as to the expected functional life of the old brown marble I linked above... 15 yrs old and seen pool hall service...  My understanding is the play style of the brown marble is likely be more forgiving for my kids as well.

Any thoughts appriciated.

Ihave had 3 brownies in my lifetime and the only reason I have gotten rid of any of them was either because I needed the money or was moving and didn't have the room. They are solid as tanks, keep them tuned and clean it will be there after many jealous girlfriends!! IMO the best table Tornado ever made.Good Luck Happy Holidays!
