the new season
« on: September 30, 2009, 11:46:35 PM »
It seems the new season is off to a slow start, I know I have,nt been showing up.  This site seems almost dead for responces, is it because my spelling is so bad?  Is there a changeing of the gaurd takeing place? Will mandy win the womens points race by showing up once?  Might anchorage be next on the list where foosball dies, like a lot of places around the country? I like just playing for fun now. What about the rest of the old timers, Ithink this is true everywhere.  What has everyone been doing? please reply, like I played once this year at a freinds house, or whatever.  Lets see where this leads?   Tony the jackie chan of foosball!!!!

Sorry to hear your locals are going slow...

Same thing's happening down here in South Florida, because there's a few problems with the newer venue due to football season (it's a sports bar) starting.  New promoter's done great with upgrading the tables and balls, but noone's been able to step up to the plate to keep promoting the weeklies on an individual basis.  Also keeps the group more social, of course, despite the typical diversity of backgrounds, families, work situations you find among foosers.

If noone among you maintains contact with personal texts, emails, and phone calls weekly to the regulars, (not the crappy broadcast form texts or form emails), your local will naturally drift away every so often.  I hope someone or even better, several people, decide to keep that personal touch with your regulars happening.  And even more importantly, any new foosers that are prospective regulars.  New venues always start off nice and fresh, but as people get out of touch, they find other things and other places to do, without being regularly reminded.

I hope you guys get back into a really good season.

Well it.s nice to see   someone respond. Played on saturday, lost one , won one, lost one.   Everything was slightly off< not playing>  my own fault.  Couple of newer players winning, that play a lot, but the old time players don,t practice anymore. Me included.  What keeps you motivated?

Yeah, last week was my first time this season.  Didn't do so hot myself.  Without the means to see my chiropractor, it just isn't worth putting myself through the pain anymore.  I do see him Monday, tho, so am going tonight. :D

I haven't been playing our "locals" north of Ft. Lauderdale lately, since it's 45 minutes away and such a P.I.T.A. to get to, but I don't really have to get motivated, because I run the Sunday 8-ball mini-league and Monday nite 8-ball tourney at a retro games artsbar, called Lost Weekend.  It's just over a mile from me, and is open till 3am Sun thru Thurs, till 4am Fri-Sat.  I practice there all week, even late, and I get to play other regulars whenever they show.

We also have a friend, Brendan, who has a house with a table that we've regularly gone to on Thursdays the past 5 years, and he's in Boca Raton, about 25min south from me.  We do pickups till we drop, including pickup draw tournaments whenever there're a lot of players.  They usually barbecue and have a lot of beer-drinking, watching some adultswim (RoboChix, FamGuy, ATHF, SuperJail, Squillies, Metalocalypse, etc..) on bigscreen when we're not playing... There're the early players from 7:30p till about 11, then there's the vampire foosers, like me.  Major fun, in fact so much that we have an auxiliary group that shows on Saturdays now...  There's always foos, because his two next door neighbors and quite a few "stoppin' by" friends all foos.  Everyone's free to bring their own beer or ***tails, plus food.. several just come to shoot the sh*t in the backyard.  You're welcome, too, if you're in South Florida.
