Great question....

Of Course It Is... but.... it's ALSO....
.... a "Game"    (great fun for schools... office break rooms... local taverns... at home or the club)
.... a "Toy"      (it's fun for kids... and even if they allow spinning!)

.... a "Passion"
.... a "Hobby"

and even....
.... a "CoffeeTable"
.... a "8 or 16 shirt clothes hangers"
.... a sawhorse...  :)

It all depends on how you define game and sport. Webster wouldn't agree with me, but I always thought a good way to define game and sport is: a game is "turn based" (i.e., where you take turns playing against the game itself), and a sport is where you play directly against an opponent (i.e., the opponent can play defense etc. against you). Therefore, examples of games would be pool, darts, golf, bowling, and examples of sports would be basketball, football, chess, ... and foosball :-).

Yeah, but then "Hungry Hungry Hippos" would be considered a sport as well.

I believe foosball is a sport for two reasons:

1. You compete against others.
2. It takes an incredible amount of skill to compete on a professional level.

For the record - I'm not knocking on Hungry Hungry Hippos.  It's a classic.  If it was much more difficult to play and took years of practice and experience to get extremely good, then it could be a sport, too.

"Anything that requires a certain level of skill to be able to compete." That is the definition of a sport and that to me sounds like foosball!
