Westport is considered one of two night-time hot spots in town but it is more than that if you are interested.
Before there was a Kansas City, there was a Westport, built along the Santa Fe Trail as an outfitting center for wagon trains heading west. Today the area is filled with renovated and new buildings housing trendy shops, restaurants, and nightspots.
For Foosball, on Friday nights, The Buzzard Beach is the only place to find competitive players in town drinking and playing.

Both museums are very well done and proudly maintained. The Jazz museum as a non-smoking “club” attached to it which has fine live Jazz entertainment regularly.
The 18th & Vine historic district was the center for black culture and life in Kansas City from the late 1800s-1960s. It was the hub of activity for homeowners, business, jazz music, and baseball enthusiast. Just outside of the district stands the Paseo YMCA building, which was built as a black YMCA in 1914. It served as temporary home for baseball players, railroad workers, and others making the transition to big city life in the Midwest. It was here that the Negro National League was founded in 1920. Although the district and the YMCA building were becoming blighted by the 1980s, they were recognized on the National Register of Historic Places.

$1560 KC Tournament Foosball- Saturday July 25th - RESULTS
« Reply #3 on: July 28, 2009, 11:28:33 AM »
thought you should have a summary tho most of you are on the other board too but not all of you...here is how it went

Great turnout….thank you to everyone for coming, it was great having you.  Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to put this together.  KC TOURNAMENT FOOSBALL can’t thank Sharks enough as a sponsor and partner.  Sharks gave so much and supported everything that happened.

I take a chance leaving someone important out but here is a partial list of those who deserve special recognition for their efforts in no particular order
Kate (our server who worked her butt off for 13 hours, stayed until after we left a 3am AND had to work the next day at 9am)
Mary, Chris, Steve, Kent, Justin, Tom, Armonda, and the Sharks management staff
Mark Murrell - it wasn't planned, but we ran into a issue in the beginning and Mark bailed us out and he was available and helpful the entire tournament...HUGE THANKS

Who won?
The Players – good time, give-aways, atmosphere, competition, friends, and payouts
Sharks – did very well and were surprised and pleased with the turnout and “results”
Table owners – 5 tables busy for nearly 13 hours straight

THANKYOU MARK WINKLER’S NETFOOS – what a life saver.

Here are the results. Congratulations to everyone who placed but a special recognition to Dennis Regero (no brainer tourney MVP) who was hot, hot, hot and won BOTH events.  His whole game was great but his 3 bar was crazy good.  Congratulations also to both of his partners…Dana Swope-Smith playing rock solid goalie in the Open DYP and Dennis’ BYP partner (picked up at the tournament I might add) Ben Buchanan a relative beginner who played lights out.  I don’t think I have ever seen a person happier or more appreciative of a win as much as Ben did.  Terrific nice guy, good partner, and a well deserved win.

Both finals were against great teams and the OPEN DYP, if on a Jim Stevens DVD, would be a classic.  Dramatic second set match ball against Joe Rhodes and John (JR) Adams.  Big crowd, up on big screen video, dramatic, tense, and well played back and forth ball by ball afair.

Neil Johnson and Joe Coffman were in the No-Pro Bring finals against Dennis and Ben and despite the fact it was 3 am, they all fought and played like it was 9pm.

More tournament summaries and evaluations later…thanks again to everyone.
