I heard there was a foosball movie starring Leif Garrett that came out in the early 80's called "The Longshots" or "The Longshot Kids" or something like that.  Has anyone here seen it or know where I can get my hands on it?  I couldn't find it online in dvd format and vhs costed around $100!  Must be a classic.

its a B movie a best but for foosers it is all we have...hasn't been made in many years and never in DVD so finding used VHS is the only option

$100!?!?!  I don't even think that movie grossed $100 back in '81.

In any event I'd be willing to sell off my mint VHS copy (or maybe it's on Beta?) for $99 shipped.

In all seriousness I do have a copy and I would invite anyone over to view it, but I don't even know if I have a VHS player in the house any more.

I have a cd copy but I do not have a burner. I will be at the SC Open if someone with a burner wants to get it, make copy and send back to me or bring back to the SC State. If not maybe work something else out.

I was in that movie and Johny Lott, Bill Cavanaugh and myself did all the shots for the actors. It was a blast! Didn't get a speaking part but Flair did he said "time out" and got paid a lot more. They called what I did a stunt extra. Im the guy in the red shirt who wins Lief and Linda early in the movie. Stevens, Bamma, Russ, Dennis were in it just to name a few. It was not a good movie B- at best but could be worth the $$$ just to see Flair with a big fro. Oyeah big fro anyway Stevens might be able to get you a deal. Enjoy

A total a-hole named Robert Ismert already sorta made a documentary about Foosball...

Definitely not worth purchasing, and could definitely be improved upon (so I hope someone else does do a more professional documentary one day).  The highlight of the documentary was the soundtrack.

Not sure if anyone has ever met this "director" in person, but when I tried to purchase his DVD on his site he tried to take my money and not send the DVD.  After >2 weeks of not receiving the DVD or any correspondence I decided to try to email or call him.  No response, so I file a Paypal complaint...and "amazingly" within 20 mins of filing I get a response from him asking me to drop the complaint and that he will send it out.  I told him I would not drop the complaint until I get the DVD.  We shot many emails back and forth for weeks and he still would not send the DVD, and he would never give me a reason other than he was "busy".  Then one day, to my shock, it finally arrived >1 month later...

The quality of the DVD is poor (even though it is new it skips and hesitates at random points on different brand DVD players), the cover art looks like someone printed it on a cheapo HP inkjet printer and it doesn't seem to fit the DVD case...  He's probably a 1 man shop, and I imagine it took that long for me to get it because he was probably literally making the DVD as he sells them.  In any event, if he would have just emailed me from the get go and just told me he was a struggling director and that I would need to be patient then I would have been fine with that.  Instead I had to deal with constant lies and excuses...  I would have sent the DVD back but I did not want to deal with this character again, because I'm sure I would have sent it back and he would have kept my money.

I've met him and I'd say you're pretty far off the mark in your assessment. I would be curious when it was you ordered this.

i have read tons of posts by Robert and many others before, during, and after the "release" of his movie and it was well documented that he had many issues getting the original orders out and it made many people mad and Jin is giving an example of this

he is a struggling director and he put so much time into this project and it is easy to sit back and take shots at the product but if you are a foosball fan this is a must have movie regardless of the issues getting or owning it

there has been so little done for foosball everything that is released is a part of our history...he could have done so many things with this and so much more could be said because there is so much to cover but all the same, he captures a slice of foosball history and it is super interesting

i don't know him personally but have read his many posts and he is a nice guy that took several years of his time trying to do something special...it may not be high class but it is still class

he is definitely not an administrator but those of us in foosball owe him some thanks for taking a risk and producing something like this

i am sorry for Jin's experience, and others who had similar experiences, but if you haven't seen this and don't own it and you are a fan of foosball history, or would like to see some of its beginnings, this is a must own

and on the other side, i know people who got the move with no problems…no excuse for his interaction with Jin, but despite Jin’s bad experience, which is disappointing for sure, I HIGHLY recommend the movie

My experience happened very recently and I can document everything that happened to me and I would love to have him explain publicly why he did what he did to me.  If anyone knows him, I encourage you to have him reply to this thread...and let's hear his side.  I am accurately portraying the events that occured and I doubt he would say that the events occurred much differently.

$23.50 ($20 + shipping) is not much...so it really had little to do with the money, but more to do with being honest and having integrity.  If he did this to anyone I am sure they would think he was an A-hole just as I characterized him as above.  Like I said if he was upfront about the whole process, or even listed on his website that it can and may take a month to get your DVD that would be fine...at least I knew beforehand.

I am a fan of foosball, and I like to own most things foosball...and everyone that I have ever dealt with through foosball has been a top notch person that I could hang with...  This is my first deal through the foosball community that has ever left a sour taste in my mouth.

I'm just going to speculate here... I don't know any hard details but I do have some knowledge of how Robert went about making his film and the time and effort it took and the cost he incurred in its production.

The reason I asked about when you purchased the dvd is because the initial release of the movie was mid-2006. In fact I was one of the people that received early "screening" copies to watch and offer feedback. My guess is that he had a certain number of discs produced. I'm also guessing that it wasn't a huge number.

Looking at the "Foos Movie" website it appears that the promotion of it was turned over to someone named Scott Simoneaux with an outfit called "Infectious Publicity". I suspect this might be the person you dealt with. Like I said, I don't think the initial production run of DVDs was very big so it would be my guess that the first batch was depleted and the one you received was very likely a quick burn and print job.

It's too bad you had a poor experience with your purchase and that you didn't find the film to your liking. However, one other thing I will say in Robert's defense is that this was his first (and most likely last) foray into documentary film making... in fact this was his first time making any type of film. I wrote the first public review for the film and I recall that Robert was a little disappointed in my take on it but he appreciated me giving it an honest review... I also recall asking him why there were no excerpts from my review on the DVD case. From my experience with Robert, all I will say is that the person I met and spent some time with was a decent guy who was seriously passionate about the game of foosball.

I (and several others I know) may not have thought it was great film-making but I will NEVER criticize him for his efforts in making it and what he went through to complete it. It was an endeavor that very few would choose to take on.
