Have a problem with a used Halex table I just bought
« on: March 06, 2011, 10:47:43 AM »
Just bought a nice Halex used table that has counterbalanced men.  The problem is that the 3 rod and 2 rod men do not always stay "in position" with feet down......any ideas on how to correct this? New rod, bearings, men? I'm new to owning a foosball table......thanksin advance for any suggestions.....

That is one of the problem w/ non-tournament tables. The quality control is generally terrible. Short of swapping the men I don't know know what to tell you. Even that may not do the trick. If you are really feeling crazy I guess you could try to add more weight to the mens heads but that would likely be more trouble than it's worth. FYI many here, myself included, will tell you to hurry up and return it/sell it and buy a quality table. If you care enough about the men not staying in place, you may actually care enough to learn how to play tournaments some day...

"the problem w/ non-tournament tables"
So true - every once in a while I walk up to one of those home models in a Dick's or similar store.  Not once could I imagine playing a satisfying game on that type of table.  They are not close to being in the same league and will likely teach you hard-to-break bad habits.

As quickly as you can - find a Tornado (ok...or Bonzini) table in your area; see how the game is played and how the table feels; decide whether you want to really learn how the game is played.

Also - if you post your 20, then others can direct you to a venue.

It could potentially be the bar.  When a bar gets bent, it can cause the men to raise up.  This can happen on the top tables also.

We like to try to help everyone get a good quality table.  That's why we occasionally come off a little harsh on the store bought tables.  There just isn't any way you can get the same playing characteristics on the cheaper tables.
