Dress Code Background:
The ITSF is organizing foosball as a sport in
accordance with International Olympic Committee guidelines that all IOC
recognized sports must meet. Similar to the way the IOC has a requirement that a
common set of rules be developed to govern sanctioned play (which is why we have
ITSF rules used throughout the world instead of each country having its own
differing set), the IOC has a rule that you be able to differentiate the sport's
participants from spectators. They way ITSF is doing that is by the "athletic
attire" dress code. It isn't necessarily about neat dress etc, if they allowed
dress jeans and cargo pants and stuff like that then the players would look like
spectators.
Personally I'd (Bruce Nardoci) prefer they use a different method, such as maybe
placards you wear on you chest like runners have. The placard could also have
your name, rank etc. This could be printed/handed out when you sign up. I plan
to propose that to ITSF.
