How many times  have we all  lost matches because the goalie had our number?  How do  you  get  someone's number?  Well  the  best  way  to  be effective as a goalie, is to try and get a feel of your opponents take off. If you can tell when they start their shot, then you can anticipate your race, and the race defense is the best way to shut som one out if you can do it.  This   is  also effective if your opponent does not have a good straight or dink.
The strategy of defense at goalie is almost Identical to the defensive five row.  In theory,  you have two men  to  cover  three  holes, the straight, the middle and the long. I believe that a good goalie should be able to end up in two of the three holes. This means you can create a guessing  game  with  the  opposing forward. With this type of defense, it is vital not to give away where you are going to end up.  The old bait and switch, is still the way to block a top forward  if he  Is  not giving his shot away.
Key things to think about: Find out your opponents weakness! Is he long happy? Make your opponent shoot his weaker shots.  It you are  playing someone who has no weakness  in his shot, then a totally random defense, where you end up in two of the three holes,  should get  you two out  of ! three blocks. If a goalie is blocking 66%, then in my book he is doing a tremendous Job  The most important thing to remember if you are getting drilled, change what you are doing. Don't get stubborn with a defense Just because it has worked in the past.
WINNERS ADAPT!
