Topic: Which Tornado handle...

We have a Cyclone II table here at work our breakroom and it is around 5-6 years old.

The original wood handles are quite worn and don't really have the grip that an original wood handle would have. This causes a problem with the thick TTR master wraps staying on the handles without "sliding" off.

I am looking at replacing these.

I'm not sure if I should just use new wood handles, or look to changing to the newer yellow and black plastic/rubber handles.

Which would you guys recommend?

The foosball shop here has the 2006 interchangable handle which I assume will also attach with a normal pin?


Now the Tornado Foosball shop has the yellow and black Tornado handles introduced in what refer to as late 2008.

Are these the best yet?

So to summarize, what would you recommend to use with a grip (2 bar, 3 bar) and without (Goalie, 5 bar)?

get the new handles, no brainer if you are changing handles...just make sure you tell Jim Waterman exactly the ones you want...newest ones are best BY FAR

however, you can just use a different wrap...TTR thin, Wilson White Overgrip, or Yonkex will all work easy on old wood handles...play on tables much much older and more used than what you are talking about with no issue...even the fat TTR should work if you wrap them right

still, i love the new handles and ordered them myself recently and i am waiting for them to arrive and can't wait

They don't list selling the newest ones, if so. It just takes a comment in the order?

I wrap the same way on my grey Marble at home which stay on for months of moderate play (same wraps) so I concluded it is the players or the handles. I'm guessing it is a mix of both at my work. Keeping the rubber bands on is a pain because the players try to pull the rod hard into the wall sometimes and then once those come off the grip can start coming off. they also push it off at the top a bit. I have tried to make it extremely tight and also to add tape to the ends very tightly to aid in them staying in place, but they never last more than a week. It probably sees 20-30 games per day. When I say they are worn, they are very smooth compared to new wood handles and have body oils etc on them making them even smoother.

I'm using the gray/black TTR thick which work extremely well at home. Except they look extremely dirty after a little while at work.

yea i have played on the real smooth ones, i know exactly what you are talking about...now i think the new handles are the bomb but you want to teach these peeps how to use the table

don't slam so hard that pulling the band off is common...bad on the table most important...not never, cause sometimes the power is just too much   but really, probably need to keep new bands around so you can change them out, they start to stretch out when left on and they come off more often

you can get a "big" bag of those from Jim for $6 and there are about 100 in the bag...cheap easy investment....i carry lots and hand them out all the time since no ones seems to think about this except me...i bought 2 big bags last i bought and use them and give them away all the time, I still have a big batch left and its been probably 18 months...so $6 a year for bands ain't bad

ask Jim if the extra thick and tackie foosball.com wraps would be a good fit...one of the very few i haven't tried

Thanks Jim! If possible it would be great to update that description. I was pretty close to making an order at the other site listed for the handles and an order here for other items (including two large bags of bands).

BBtuna... I know what you mean but many are newer players and I'm not there when they play, not the best teaching environment. I think learning bar limits and which man to try to the ball with will come over time and it will get better. You're definitely right about the bands. Once being taken off and on repeatedly for a week, they are MUCH looser and don't have nearly the same clamping power as when new. They loose their effectiveness. I made this mistake of buying a smaller bag mid last year thinking they would last as long as they do at home.

Thanks for the help! Now I want the newer handles for my own table! At least the unwrapped handles.

For the handles that I do wrap (2, 5, 3) would I see much benefit in the newer handles on my home table? I actually would like to not wrap the 5 if the handle had better grip than without.

I placed an order for 2 full sets of handles. One for at work and one for at home! (I bought some parts here but not the handles due to the price being higher)

I can't wait! I also purchased multiple new grips so I should have a better idea of what works best for my work situation soon.

where did you buy your handles for less and how much difference are you talking about?  you saved what, 25 cents per handle? so that is $2 per set?  some things cost a small amount more buying on this site (and some less) but only penney's usually and this is the site that supplies all the information you need to make decisions

the other site doesn't offer this kind of service and access...good people, same product, good prices but doesn't offer as much service

this is the place where you ask all the questions you want, isn't that worth 25 cents?  to each there own but thats the way i see it

I was thinking the same thing unless you had 2 huge orders, which might offset both shipping charges...but then you are just splitting pennies.
