Playing the game of foosball

Just wondering what you like about foosball the most? For me I like to control the ball.  I figure that if you have total control you can do any shot you want at anytime. I love to play smooth and yet I like to slam some in too >:(

I like what i call the Meta-game of foosball. The Chess aspect that makes it mental game and not   a spin the rods to win game. Also, Passing, its friggin' aresome!

My favorite part of the game is the variety of shots (you used to see). Now a days the rollover has dominated, but I remember when it was cooler to have developed your own style. I guess the pull shot was dominate back then, but everything from toe and heel pins, push and pull kicks, tic tac, banks, and so on, made the game exciting. A lot of it was regional, and when someone would play against another style at a tourney or bar on vacation, they would bring back stories of what they saw and incorporate it into their game. That was the fun in being a barhack. You tried different things because the most you had to lose was a quarter.

i love it as an outlet to be creative but not just offensively, it is the defense and strategy...designing new shots, defenses, systems

i love the incremental changes watching my game improve, like polishing silver, every time you polish you get more of the dark stuff off and the shine of the silver becomes more and more clear

i love the KAPOW! SLAM! BOOM! too, and beating good people, and the chess part of the game, and playing under pressure, and playing for fun, and friends and fun, drinking and blastin, loud talk and good natured trash talking

i love playing fun and pulling out something new and to have even my regular foos buds marvel at the new creation or the accuracy

i love when we are out in a bar and casual players or just bar people start watching and they rave about never seeing anything like that in their whole life and they start taking pictures and phone video

i like it at home as a get-a-way too - the therapeutic side of the game for me is just being able to retreat onto the table while the world and its/my problems fade away

There is a good book for playing pool, "Pleasure in Small Motions". The whole premise is to get back to the bottom line of why you play. For some reason small skilled movements are pleasurable especially when matched against others. When a player competes from this mindset they will do their best.

I would say I enjoy the most from the continuous if not complete focus and diversion of it.  The more technique you learn, or even experiment with, the better the feedback.  Prolly from foos endorphins, like the rush with a loud slam dunk over outstretched defenders (bball), or a perfect strikeout pitch in a corner of the strikezone (smallball).  The rush from passing is like the qb throw and acrobatic TD catch or completed pass, (or the mack in footies) leading to continued possession and play.

Plus the thrill of getting out of the house and doing something that has absolutely no relation in this solar system to anything done at home or work.  And oh yeah, pretty barmaids, foxy bartenders and talking trash with fooz buddies.

I don't however, get any buzz or thrill from continuously and regularly beating up on lesser players, which quite a few foosers I've known over the decades seem to really delight in.  Too much human for me.

But then again, I might just be a reincarnated observer from some deconstructed deathmetal planet called Havoc Primeval or something... you never know... might've seen too much domination, subjugation, and abomination already, is all....

Jiminy Crotchrockets OM!

Are you sure that's a book for pool or billiards?  "Small skilled movements are pleasurable especially when matched against others," you sure?  Sounds more like a book for foreplay!  What if there're no others?  Auto-play?  Are you sure you didn't see this book between the foos wraps and the black latex straitjackets & ballgags at the local adult bookstore? ;D

Not that I frequent those places... I just heard about them at some theology bible studies at college.  Don't look at me, it was an elective!  8)

Hehehe OM,

And I forgot to mention, several lady friends I know absolutely swear that when large, longer movements are required while matched against others. these can be just as dang pleasurable!  :D
