René Pierre table
« on: March 10, 2019, 11:24:23 AM »
Hello all, I just signed up hoping to get some information.  I recently came across a René Pierre table in good condition  that I believe may be older.  Coin slot, looks like blue playing field, metal serial number tag. Says René Pierre and Made in France.  I can take some better quality pics if this is something of possible value.
Thanks in advance for any info.
Robert.

Rob79NJ,
Indeed that looks like an early Rene Pierre blue top table...looks to be in really nice condition.  Take a few pictures of the table with the playing top open.  Does it have the coin box in it?  As far as value, there seems to be no real antique market for these tables that drives really high prices, but they are more enjoyed for their quality constructions, playing dynamics and nostalgia.  A blue top table is a cool find.  Check out the forum here for a lot more information--the rods are 15mm vs. 14 mm for later table, which makes parts harder to find.  What did you pay for it if you are willing to share?  The one thing that puzzles me is the coin slot mechanism.  Theblack knob and "Derby" script on it is puzzling.  The pull-type RP coin slots usually have a silver metal knob and have an RP coin script...and no return slot.

I came across one a little over a year ago in Baltimore.  Great shape except for missing legs...which I'm working on (on pine stand for now).  Anyway, I had not seen another with the lime green handles like mine.  They look to be in good shape except for one looks cracked.

There are several really knowledgeable members on here that know a lot about the tables--perhapos they can date it, but it may be from 1971-1973 or so from what I have read..  One member in particular that I have bough some parts from in member JSS.  He is a super knowledgeable guy and must have been involved with these tables from way back because he has parts that no one else has.  I bought a skeleton key, several leg bolts, and a pull-coin mechanism.  He now has handles to.

He is an upstanding guy in my experience...shoots straight and follows through.  I definitely recommend you reach out to him at his cell in the other thread if you need parts.

You found a gem there from way back...very nice find!!

Thank you for the response....kind of exciting. I dug up a little more info. It was given to me about a year ago. Pryor to that it was purchased about 30-35 years ago in Rockland County NY for $200. At some point the handles were replaced but beyond that I don’t believe it’s been touched. One side has green handles the other has black. It has both ashtrays (I assume they are ashtrays) but no coin box.  I don’t have any plans to sell or restore it as I do occasionally use it now.  It’s in great working condition.  I see what you mean about “Derby” by the coin slot, I’m wondering if that is a replacement also. Here are a few more pics with the top open.  I will also reach out to JSS for a little more info.
Thanks again.

Rob,
You definitely have a nice table for sure!  The original blue gerflex looks to be in great shape.  The table is really a clean one.

You don't have to do anything to enjoy it for a long time...hang on to it!

That table brings back a lot of memories to me.  I am looking for a table just like that...  hopefully with the ashtrays.

If anyone has one...   ping me here!

I can confirm that that table is at least from 1973 - it is the exact table I learned to play on at "Joe Foose" on Jefferson Avenue, Newport News, VA., ... the exact handles, coin slot, keyhole table lock, removable ashtrays... and the sweet DING of the metal goals.

Thanks for sharing your post!!
