and if you use alcohol, I'd advise the 91% mixture, leaves less impurities. I use it to clean and prep chip/heatsink surfaces before applying thermal compounds when I assemble computer components and it works great. Also good for cleaning the silicone off your playing surface in those occasions when some has gotten on the playfield. Back when the grey marbles had that slick surface I pledged my blonde's playfield (lol) to make it slicker so I could practice pinned ball control. Once I didn't need it anymore I used an alcohol solution similar to what Rios uses (I use distilled water for less impurities as well) and it cleaned the surface up to pre-pledge conditions nicely.
There is also a product used for displacing water from electrical systems, if you do use water to clean your rods, you could apply that to remove any vestiges of water that may remain to harm your rods. Just a thought.
