Curved playing field on vintage (maybe tournament soccer table)
« on: October 21, 2022, 08:56:25 AM »
I was given this vintage (1970's) table by my neighbor.  After cleaning it up it looks and works great, but I noticed that no matter where you put the ball on the table it wants to roll in towards the center.  I am wondering if the field is supposed to be curved or if it has just sagged over the years.  If I apply some pressure on the bottom of the table in the center, it seems to flatten it out pretty well.  Wondering if this is something i can/should fix, or if this is the way it was designed and we should just play it as is.
I can't figure out how to attach a photo to this post, but the table I have is the same exact one that is shown in this post https://www.foosball.com/forum/index.php?topic=4789.0

It should be flat. I had that problem with a million dollar table a few years ago that I got for cheap. I fixed it by installing a couple 2x4 ribs under the playfield. I pushed the playfield back up from underneath and attached the ribs to the sidewalls with 90 degree angle brackets.

That's awesome. Did you use a level or anything to make sure it was even and balanced?

Many vintage tables have some degree of playing field slope, and it can be part of the nostalgic charm of playing on an older table.
